The Gallatin County Community Coalition needs your support.

We are taking action to protect our environment and the health of our residents - so that our land and health is preserved and protected for present and future generations.

Our Projects

Currently, we are in process of appealing a 2024 decision by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality to approve a permit for a gravel pit mining operation located near the intersection of Highline and Veltkamp Roads in Manhattan. The concerns are many for this project - it will have an impact on our water quality and quantity, our health by silica dust and air pollution, our livelihoods by being legally permitted to operate 24/7, and our constitutional right to "a clean and healthful environment in Montana for present and future generations".

Our Focus

We are seeking donations to take our concerns about the gravel pit mine (Opencut #3561) and this approval process directly to the Board of Environmental Review. In order to meet the legal requirements that the State has set in place regarding appeals, legal counsel must be retained. There is no path forward without legal counsel; this is our only chance to protect our health and our environment.

When you donate, your contribution goes directly to this effort. There's a lot of money in mining operations and we have a big challenge ahead of us, but as individuals we strongly feel it's worth defending our right to keep our roots here in Gallatin County.
